Goals & Dreams

Today we made a decision, my husband and I. We are going full out on the markets this year. The goals we have set, are to help us get to what we need for our bodies and souls.
Being outdoors and in the garden is very therapeutic in many ways. Keeping us active in mind and body.
What are our goals you ask, good question.
Our main goal is to be self sufficient with food as much as possible. Reducing our purchases to as little as possible. This means being smarter about wasteful items such as paper towels and finding a proper alternative. Now, we aren't currently in a position to be able to raise livestock for food. This we will try to take care of through local farmers and producers at the markets we will attend this year.
Preserving and canning will be a large part of our household needs as well. This will also flow into the markets for the customers to purchase. I think I will skip the dills for our house and stick to the bread and butter pickles, they are way more popular with the hubby.
I have monetary goals of what we need to achieve and what we are striving to achieve. To be able to be the people we want to be. For ourselves, and our family.
So this month we are on our way to our goals. We are planning the garden, and the challenge is in deciding how much to plant and what varieties. What we will need for ourselves and what for markets.
Trying new foods has never been our strong point. This year I plan to change that. My personal goal is to try at least one new food item every week. For this reason I am planting items we have never eaten. Yellow Pear Cherry Tomatoes, Cherry Bomb Peppers (supposed to be sweet...lol), Rainbow Carrots, even possibly some Black Tomatoes. Each are to have different tastes. I am looking forward to trying each one!
Sprouts is something that I have eaten before, bean sprouts. I am looking at growing these for ourselves and possibly the market if there is interest. I really like them but having issues getting hubby to try them, some challenges are worth letting slide. I will get him on others, wink wink. Love you babe!
Working in a grocery store this past winter has given me a true understanding of the cost of our food and what is absolutely necessary for daily success. A lot of what we purchase is not needed. So this year I am starting to challenge every purchase I make with some questions.
1. Does it serve a purpose that is needed?
2. Does it feed my body or soul?
3. Is there another option I could use for less waste/money?
4. And do I really think I will actually use it in a timely manner?
This will help me find what is truly needed and what will benefit our home the most.
Now that I, seriously, sidetracked myself with all the little goals I intend to achieve. My personal main goal is to work for myself, with my family, for myself and my family. Make sense? In an ideal world I would be able to provide all we need within our own space. This starting path will lead me to where I need to be.
Here we go, on the road to success and happiness.
